Easy Homemade Dog Food in the Slowcooker

I have recently started making homemade dog food for our pack. Like everything else, dog food (kibble) has gotten expensive and it's been hard to figure out what dog food is good for two little breed dogs and one big ol' yellow Lab who wants to eat all day long.

When the babies had their first appointment, I asked the vet about giving them homemade dog food, and he gave us the okay. He told me to throw in lots of veggies. The first time I made it I really was just guessing at how to make it, but it was a huge hit with our furry family. Now I make it essentially the same way every time, just changing out the meat based on whether boneless chicken or beef roasts are on "super sale".

I think the sweet potatoes are their favorite part. Those are fresh, and I just wash them and chop them up with the skins on. I throw them in the slowcooker with a bag of baby carrots, some frozen green beans and frozen peas, and a couple of pounds of fresh meat. I pour about a cup of broth (beef or chicken, but veggie will work too) over the top of it all and let it cook for 6-8 hours on low heat.

It's not a huge expense, and it makes me feel more confident that they are getting good nutrition. I'd love to have some more recipes for them, so let me know what you've got!
