Three Envelope Pot Roast and How to Thicken Gravy

Everyone has heard of the three envelope pot roast, right? I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel.

To make this easy Crockpot pot roast, place a three to five pound beef roast in your slowcooker. Mix together one envelope of brown gravy mix, one envelope of Italian dressing mix and one package of ranch dip mix with two cups of water. Throw in a bag of baby carrots and a few pounds of washed and quartered potatoes and pour the three envelope mixture over the top. Cover and cook on low for eight to ten hours or until desired doneness.

There, end of recipe.

I am the anti-food blogger.

Now, to make that thin but yummy liquid into gravy.

Remove the roast from the slowcooker and place it on a plate or platter. Scoop all the potatoes and carrots out as well and put them in a nice big bowl. Pour the remaining liquid into a saucepan but scoop out 1/4 cup into a small bowl. Add 1/4 cup cornstarch to that 1/4 cup of liquid and whisk really well. Pour that mixture a bit at a time into your boiling liquid in the saucepan. Whisk it while it boils for one minute. If it isn't thick enough, add more of the cornstarch mixture. All done.

There you go- a simple pot roast recipe and gravy making lesson.

Enjoy!
